Lately, in our household we have been doing a lot of different types of character training efforts. As a Mother, I feel like it never really quits and that after every opportunity I have to train my children, that I really could have done it alot better! Anyone feel this way??
I was reading in my devotions this morning and came across this verse:
Colossians 4:6
"Let your speach always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one."
I realize that Paul was encouraging people in their witnessing, but it really hit me as encouragement to keep on training with a gentle spirit and smile. It really made me realize that even I, as the Mother, can continue in my own character training as I work with my girls. When I answer in grace, YET seasoned with salt as needed, my girls will learn the most.
I think this works with more than just Mother's training children. I think it works with anyone in any job. Anyone who comes into contact with people, which is how Paul's encouragement on witnessing works in. When you always speak with grace, seasoned with salt, people are naturally drawn to you and trust you, and the light of Jesus will show through to them.
Anyhow, this is my thought for this very early morning....
Proverbs 12:18
Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
✟Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24

I really agree. Character training is crucial and begins with an examination of our own character to be sure we are teaching out of actual truth in our lives rather than just saying "do as I say and not as I do." Character seems to be the theme today as it is also my Monday blog subject and is also the sermon quote I added to my blog yesterday. There are so many facets to character that I wonder if God will also prompt Becky and Amy to think along those lines too? He sometimes does that, have everyone in a group think about the same thing at the same time. Love, Mother
I have been thinking about how to change my outlook on things. Being cheerful even when I'm sad. I guess that's along the same lines as character...I've just come to realize that you have to make the choice to be upbeat and optimistic. God is the answer, nothing I can do will help, only Him.
Jess, your blog today was encouraging to me! We are definitely doing character training around our house, and sometimes it gets a little discouraging. I have to make sure that I am not getting frustrated, but stay patient as the progress comes slowly but surely. Even though Isaac is a child, I still need to speak to him "with grace." It is so cool how God works, just yesterday I was trying to have a whole day of responding to everything with patience. My character does need to be in line before I try to do any training of any sort. Thanks for the encouragement! Can't wait to see you!
